Scrapbooking is a multi-billion dollar industry and continues to grow. Now is the perfect time to take advatnage of this long lasting trend and start your own online scrapbook store. With hundreds of manufacturers and every imaginable product from paper to totes, where do you start?

1) The first step is to come up with a plan. You can't dive head first into this or any business. It requires a strategy to differ yourself from the competition already out there. How will you attract customers? What are you offering that is better or different? How will you retain customers?

2) After you have your plan on paper, share it with others that have experience starting or running a business. Conduct informal surveys of friends to gauge their opinions. However, take your friend's opinions with a grain of salt, because most friends will be optimistic. Seek outside opinions and conduct formal surveys of people you don't know. Gather all the market data, criticism and feedback you can get.
Corporations and IT specialists who have experience with various business intelligence vendors are pretty familiar with various enterprise software available. Then you have the people who generalize BI and tag it with the other applications out there. Contrary to popular belief, BI provides openings for businesses that other software solutions cannot match. Whether its traditional BI, enterprise BI, data warehousing, or cloud computing, BI can prove extremely beneficial for your business.

Listed below are a few reasons how business intelligence may be beneficial to you:

BI provides so many different services, the IT market is saturated with non-business intelligence vendors who advertise "BI" solutions. When you are browsing BI software you may get caught up with all of the bells and whistles of the various products. The product you may be looking to buy may perform one of the functions needed but does it perform all of them in one solution? Adequate BI solutions can perform most these desired functions, if not all, in one solution.

 QUESTION:
best way to wash vertical blinds made of fabric?
I'd like to wash some vertical blinds made of fabric. I'm assuming that taking them down and tossing them into the washer, on the delicate cycle, will work fine. At the bottom of each blind there's a rectangular weight sewn into the blind and can't be removed. I'm assuming it won't rust after the fact.

Any suggestions or thing I should be wary of? Thanks.

 ANSWER:
my guess is if you put them in the washer they might fall apart you might be better off doing them in the bathtub and hand wash with detergent then hand from shower rod to drip dry and hang them back up when damp the weight at the bottom should pull to take wrinkles out

 QUESTION:
How to repair vertical blinds made of hard plastic?
We have vertical blinds made of hard plastic. The sun shining on them has made them quite brittle and now a number of them have snapped at the top where they have the clip that joins the bracket. Anyone have any advice/knowledge/expertise on how we can repair these? We cannot replace them, as we live in a rented property

 ANSWER:
Tell your landlord about it and (s)he should replace them. They're really not worth fixing

 QUESTION:
where are luxaflex roller blinds made?
Does anyone know where I can get factory direct Luxaflex blinds made to measure? The Luxaflex quote was really expensive. I live in Melbourne.

 ANSWER:
Hi, it’s Michael from Luxaflex here. Luxaflex Window Fashions is owned by Hunter Douglas Limited. The head office of Hunter Douglas in Australia is located at Rydalmere (western suburbs of Sydney, near Parramatta) where most of the Luxaflex products are made and manufactured.

Luxaflex products can be purchased from Window Fashion Galleries or through David Jones stores, throughout Australia. Check out www.luxaflex.com.au to find your closest retailer and keep an eye out for news about our latest sales and promotions.

Due to the premium nature of the brand, there is no 'factory direct' pricing as all products are custom made for each customer. The products come with a 5 year warranty and a guarantee – purchase through our galleries and if you don’t like the product after 20 days, we’ll replace the product for free – check out the website for more details. Hope this helps in your search for window coverings!

 QUESTION:
How much does it cost to have roman blinds made if i supply all the materials?
For example unlined basic blind. 3 small ones and 1 wide one, not sure what i would have to pay for labour! thanks

 ANSWER:
between 200 - 300 pounds each at the very high end of the market. Probably half that via standard manufacturers

 QUESTION:
If you have made roman blinds, can you please answer this?
If you have made roman blinds yourself, can you please tell me:
*What pattern did you use?
*Were you happy with the results?

I have a double window that I will probably make two blinds for, though they will be mounted close to one another. It's along the lines of 73" wide in total (two 35" inch windows plus the in-between framing stuff - but all these numbers are rough guesses) and don't think I could do just one blind. Am I right?

I want to do interior mount because it is in the kitchen and I want to keep it as tucked in as possible (thus the roman blinds rather than curtains).

I look forward to hearing from you and I will really appreciate your advice!

 ANSWER:
If you were mounting outside you could do one blind as long as you had several good supports. But you stated you were doing inside mounts, so 2 blinds are the only way you can go. Just one tip, when you do 2 or more blinds have a surface large enough to lay them side by side as you are constructing them, to mark the rods, and match the pattern of the fabric if you have one, the same with horizontal striped fabric.

When decorating your house, you'll want to give special attention to your windows. Most people only think of the drapes or curtains that they want to put up, making sure they match the couch, the chair and even the rug on the living room floor. However, what about the blinds? The blinds will really make or break a window decoration. When you get the right blinds, you'll truly make any decoration stand out.

Get the right blinds and the right window treatments around it to see how important they really are for the whole outlay of your decoration theme. However, how should you go about getting your blinds? Should you buy them at the store or can you order them online like you do the majority of your home decorating items? You can buy your venetian blinds online if you make sure you're getting exactly what you pay for.

Return Policy

Before you buy your venetian blinds online, make sure there is a return policy in case you get the wrong size. Unless your blinds are made to measure venetian blinds, you really can't be sure you're getting the right size from a tiny picture and a description. In the store, it's different. You can actually measure the blinds yourself to see if they'll fit. They're right there, in your hand, in reality. Online, however, it's a different story. So before you buy your venetian blinds online, make sure you can exchange them or get your money back incase you accidentally get the wrong thing.

Measuring the Window

Before you buy your venetian blinds online, make sure you measure the window you're going to put it in and measure it twice. The adage goes for cutting wood the same as it does for buying your venetian blinds online: measure twice, cut once. In the case of your blinds, however, it's measure twice, buy once. Make sure you measure the height of the window as well as the length. You don't want to spend all your time measure the width only to find that the blinds don't come down far enough to come past your window sill.

Once you're confident about the size of the blinds you need, then you can choose the type. Buying venetian blinds online can be fun, at least once you know you're getting the right type and size. Then, when you get them in the mail and you install them, and then add to them with all the rest of your decorations, you'll be able to see just how powerful the correct venetian blinds can be for your room decorating.

This article is a guide to choosing your window manufacturer. Here are seven questions to consider in order to make sure that you get the value, quality, and service that you ought to have for your commercial project, wall, walk in shower or block windows:

Question #1: What level of experience does this firm have? Are they experts on the product?

Knowledge takes place through experience. Inquire as to how many commercial projects, walk in showers, windows, and glass block walls that the firm has accomplished. Also ask if they keep the materials in stock or if everything is custom purchased. Are they invested financially in the company? Ask when the firm first set off and what the experience and background of the present head team. You have to know if they have the know-how on glass block showers and general construction work.

Question #2: Do they aim to understand firsthand before they aim to be understood?

A lot of sales people trade firsthand and then ask some question later, if ever they have questions at all. When choosing your window manufacturer, supplier, or installer, notice how they move towards the sales procedure with you. Take note if they ask the subsequent inquiries:
- How can I be of help to you now?
- Why do you seek to do this development?
- How would you want to use your shower areas, kitchen, bathroom, or basement in the upcoming times?
- What issues do you currently have with your walls, showers, or windows that you are seeking to be solved?

A great sales expert seeks to assist you first, and not to sell first. Any fine sales procedure must start with a sales rep who is truly seeking to help you and not concerned about how they are going to wind up the cash register with your well-merited money.

Question #3: What alternatives do you offer for me to select from?

Walls, walk in showers, and glass block window come in a lot of various energy efficiency traits, finishes, colours, tints, textures, and patterns. Does your rep know about the alternatives that are accessible in the market and have these alternatives? If you have more knowledge about the merchandise than the agent who comes to your business or home, then you absolutely have to select someone else. Do they offer engraved block, coloured glass blocks, or maybe even satin or tinted finished cool-looking clocks in order to make your design plan unique?

Question #4: How is your firm rated?

A great advantage of the Internet is that it stops the bad suppliers and contractors from hiding their unsatisfactory services. It is recommended to inquire your prospect window manufacturer or supplier on how they are rated with client rating services such as the Better Business Bureau, Consumers Choice, or the Angie’s List.

Have they received any service prizes? Are they merely a BBB member or are they a qualified member with a higher rank? Are they popular for their punctual service? Think about visiting directories online that offer client reviews of service suppliers, as well.

I bought a set of blinds to hang on a door. When I got them out of the box, the top seems kind of big and heavy. It would be fine in a window, but I don't know if it would stick out too far on a door. Is there such thing as blinds for doors or are blinds just blinds?

HOME DECOR - What type of blinds/window treatment should I use for the window in my front door?
I have an exterior (front) door with some glazing/a window in it, approx 24" x 36" in size. For privacy/security reasons I need to cover over this window at night. I haven't yet been able to find anything suitable - light enough, easy enough to open, easy to install on the door. Does anyone make blinds or covers specifically for this purpose? Or has anyone come up with a DIY solution?

 ANSWER:
At just about any store you can find thin metal curtain rods that you can attach to the top and bottom of the window. I hung mine just to cover the window (top and bottom), and made some cotton panels that could be closed, or opened, by sliding to each side. If you are unable to sew, you can purchase a pair of curtains and just adjust the rods to fit it. Hope this helps

Shopping for your unique wedding invitations can include learning terminology related to their design, paper, printing, size, color, etc. Who knew there was so much to know beyond the wording and what enclosure pieces to include. Here are the details for just some of the terms you may come across:

Invitation Card - Simply a flat card with no folds and the verse printed on the front.

Embossing - Creating a raised design by using a printing method that presses an image into the paper. The design can then be emphasized with colored ink. A raised design with the absence of any ink is called blind embossing. Debossing is created by actually indenting the design into the paper.

Foil Stamping - The special technique of hot stamping metallic colored foil onto paper.

Deckle Edge - Commonly used on parchment wedding invitations, this is an uneven, feathery paper edge.

Ecru - A familiar invitation paper color that is a warm creamy beige shade.

Pearlize - Highlighting the embossed area of an invitation by adding a shimmery, pearl-like finish.

Filigree - Lacelike decorative pattern that can appear as part of a wedding invitation design.

Tea Length - A unique invitation style that is generally 9 " x 4" in size and is either horizontal or vertical in design.

Translucent - A term that is used to describe paper that is somewhat see-through and is often times used in layered invitation designs.

Vellum - Common type of paper with a rich, smooth finish.

Linen - Another type of paper featuring a cross weave texture.

Even when it comes to unique wedding invitations, as the saying goes, the more you know the better. Knowing what these terms mean is one thing, but even better might be seeing actual samples to know which ones you may want included in your wedding invitation design.

Many people are allergic to the family pet and research has shown that people are allergic to cats about twice as frequently as dogs. Getting rid of the beloved family pet is usually not an option. Therefore we have to learn how to live with our allergies by learning how to manage them. Most people think that allergies are caused by cat or dog hair but that is not really the problem. Allergic reactions are caused by proteins called allergens that come from oil glands in the skin and are shed as dander allergens. Allergens are also found in the saliva and urine of cats and dogs. Allergens are very pervasive and cling to clothes, furniture fabric and shoes. Cat allergens have been found in houses many months after the cat has departed and have also been found many houses of people that never owned a cat. Dander allergens are really dead skin cells that can be transferred to your pet’s fur when they clean and lick themselves. A major problem for individuals predisposed to allergies occurs when they inhale airborne pet dander allergens. Allergic reactions result when minute particles of dander fool our immune systems into thinking that the dander is an invading antibody. Our immune system releases histamines to fight the “dander” antibody which results in the familiar sneezing, coughing, runny nose, itching eyes and difficult breathing. The first exposure to an allergen doesn’t usually trigger symptoms and it takes multiple exposures over a period of weeks or months to produce full blown reactions. So how do we cope or manage the situation so that we can live with our cat or dog?

We can first find out if we are really allergic to the family pet, or something else like dust, pollen or mold, by visiting an allergist physician and getting tested for various allergens. If your allergic reactions are severe then the allergist may recommend allergy shots to desensitize your reaction to dander allergens. Next you can try and allergen proof your home by getting rid of your carpets and replacing your curtains with vertical blinds. Easily washed surfaces can eliminate a lot of dander allergens. If you have wall-to-wall carpeting then have it steam cleaned fairly often. If possible install air cleaners and air filters and vacuum often with a vacuum cleaner with a high allergen containment rating. Restrict your pet’s access to your bed and bedroom and try to keep pets off the chairs and sofa that you regularly use. Try to minimize the dander allergens on your pets by washing them weekly with a special moisturizing allergy shampoo. Obviously, it is easier to do with a dog than a cat. Wash your hands frequently when playing with or grooming your pet. Try spraying your pet’s coat with an anti-allergy spray that helps eliminate allergens. Try to groom your pet frequently as the combing and brushing will help stimulate a healthy skin. Try and do the grooming outside your house and if possible get someone else to do the grooming. If it isn’t possible then wear rubber gloves and a mask to reduce your exposure to the dander. Finally, if you are getting a new cat or dog, you may want to try and get a breed that produces less dander. All pets produce some dander – even the so-called hypoallergenic pure-bred and hybrid designer breeds. Smaller pets produce less dander than larger pets. Light-colored and short haired cats seem to produce less dander. In dogs, many of the non-shedding or low-shedding breeds may also produce less dander. See the Dog Allergies section of www.dog-breed-facts.com/dog-allergies.html for a list of dog breeds that should produce less dander.

 QUESTION:
Any ideas on how to keep my kitten from playing with the curtains and vertical blinds?
This is especially tricky as I also have the pull cords to contend with... currently the curtains are up over the rod so she won't get to them at all (the curtains are almost floor-length when they are down). She constantly plays with the vertical blinds (and I rent so I worry about damages!). This is a 3-month old kitten so nothing is boring!

 ANSWER:
We had an especially frustrating kitten a while back. He did everything we did not want him to do, clawed curtains, walked on countertops, pulled toilet tissue, you name it. Here is what worked for us. We got a squirt gun. Most cats hate water. Everytime he did something we did not want him to do he got squirted. He did not associate the water with us, as we were accross the room. It did not hurt him, it was just unpleasent. He learned pretty quickly that when he climbed the back of the couch he got wet. That was 12 years ago and I am happy to say he turned out to be a wonderful cat. Enjoy your kitten.

 QUESTION:
how to add curtains to vertical blinds?
I have a color pallet of beiges & reds in my room. My wall color is a medium shade of beige. I added white vertical blinds to the deck doors that doesn't blend in with the rest of the room. I thought of placing curtains, sheers,or a long scarf to soften them. My question is, how to add any of these with the blinds.

 ANSWER:
You have to get a curtain rod that comes out from the wall such that it hangs in front of the blinds.

 QUESTION:
What would be a good alternative to vertical blinds and curtains for a large sliding-glass door?
I have a very big sliding-glass door in the breakfast-nook/kitchen/great-room concept area of my home.

I really dislike the look of vertical blinds and am bored with curtains. I currently have plantation shutters on my windows and really enjoy the clean look it creates.

Any ideas for a nice privacy/sun screening type of covering?

 ANSWER:
Roman Blinds look great on glass doors.
You can buy them ready made or make them yourself.

 QUESTION:
How do you hang curtains outside of vertical blinds?
I live in an apartment that has vertical blinds mounted on the inside frame of the window. The room remains very light, even with the blinds drawn, so I would like to put some light-blocking curtains on the outside frame of the blinds.

 ANSWER:
You will need to use a rod that gives you enough clearance, depending on how much the blinds "stick out". Measure the distance the blinds protrude into the room when they are open and add two inches or so, depending on the curtains you choose. If you choose tab-top curtains, for example, they will need more clearance than ones that are tightly gathered at the top when open. When you go to the store, you can buy a rod or fixture that has the right "return" once you know what your choices/needs are.

 QUESTION:
Replace vertical blinds with curtains?
Can anyone help explain to me how I replace my vertical blinds with curtains?
Would I need to remove the blinds and install curtain rods?
Is it difficult to do?

Thanks!

 ANSWER:
You'll have to take down the entire vertical blind system and put up a curtain rod.

My uncle who is an artisan was the first person to give me a good description of a Zebra. He used one of his Zebra Wood Carving as a model to describe the black and white stripes on the Zebra's skin. The description was so accurate that when I later saw the live animal I could identify it easily and confidently. The Zebra's stripes are its trade mark indeed.

Plain Zebra,Grev's Zebra and Mountain Zebra are the three Zebra species that are known to exist. All the three species occur in Africa. The Plains Zebra are the most plentiful and can be found virtually anywhere on the Kenyan plains and other parts of East Africa while the Grevy's Zebra are mostly found in Northern Kenya. The Plains Zebra and Grev's Zebra of Kenya have been known to coexist in the same habitat. The Mountain Zebra have their habitat in Southern and Southwestern Africa. Zebras are herbivorous and can grow up to 900 lb (410kg) or more. Being social animal, they move in herds of different sizes.

While the black and white stripe pattern makes the Zebra spectacular, the amazing facts about the stripes go beyond the beauty. For years scientists have argued about why the zebra has distinctive black and white stripes. The theories rotate around Zebra Identity and Camouflage. This article discusses these amazing theories:

- Description: Whether the Zebra's stripes are white on a black background, as some people say, or vice versa is academic. I leave it at that.

- Identity: At first glance Zebras in a herd might all look alike, but their stripe patterns are as distinctive as fingerprints are in humans. There are, indeed, scientific methods that can identify individual Zebras by comparing patterns, stripe widths and colour. Further proof that Zebra stripes are identity marks is provided by their behavior. For example, on rare occasions when unstriped Zebras are born, they tend to be ignored by the rest of the herd, confirming at least, that Zebra stripes are a passport to Zebra society. Also, when a foal is born, the mother keeps all other Zebras away from it for two to three days, until it learns to recognize her by sight, voice and smell.

- Camouflage: Scientists believe the Zebra's stripes provide camouflage in the following manner:

- The vertical stripes of a Zebra will resemble tall grass, save for the colour-grass is neither black nor white. A colour blind predator, like a lion, may, therefore, not notice a Zebra standing still in tall grass. - The Zebra stripe pattern forms a discolouration that breaks up the body outline. A herd of Zebras close together may thus appear like one large animal. The advantage of all this to the Zebra is best appreciated when you consider that the main predator for the Zebra is the lion, which is colour blind. Now, in attack, the lion must first identify the target, usually a young, old or a weakened Zebra. The Lion's eyes must then lock on the target Zebra. If, for whatever reason, the Lion is unable to achieve any of these steps, then, its stealth and ambush attack strategy is likely to be in vain.

 QUESTION:
What are the difference between black out thermal insulated blackout curtain and?
Black Out Pleated Shade (paper) which is MUCH cheaper. I am trying to cool the bed room. I already have window films and vertical blind. But still my bed room is HOT.
I see curtain( -+) and I see Paper ( - ). Are they really the same thing?

 ANSWER:
Hi, Blackout cellular shades are also great for blocking out the heat and light. The honeycomb shape insulates against the heat. The cheaper paper ones are more for a temporary basis for people that need a covering until they can afford more permanent ones. http://www.windowshadesblind.com/blackout-cellular-shades.html

Thermal shades and curtains both block out the heat they just provide different looks for people. Some people prefer shades and find curtains heavy and others prefer curtains. http://www.windowshadesblind.com/blackout-window-curtains.html Hope this helps.

 QUESTION:
When renting, what is considered normal wear and tear?
Our lease is coming to an end in a couple months after living here for 18 months and we want to fix anything that is not considered normal wear and tear. Eight people live here, so its worn and torn. Will we need to fix the walls where the paint has chipped off....usually from someone just bumping in to the wall (its cheap!). Will we need to have the carpet cleaned? The carpets are pretty stained in the living room area. Will we need to get the white grout in the kitchen tiles back to white? The stove looked to be almost new when we got here and now there are a few black spots that not even special cleaner seems to get off...will we be docked for that? The cheap plastic vertical blinds by the back door aren't in the best of shape either, should we replace them? The roomies decided to hang a bunch of stinkin posters in their rooms, should we cover the holes with paint or will they do that themselves without charging us? I have no idea what they mean by normal wear and tear.

 ANSWER:
The things that are not part of normal wear an dtear are:
1. Structural damage to walls, doors etc.
2. Big holes in walls that are due to other reasons than wall hangings.
3. Broken large fixtures.

Almost everything else you have mentioned is part of normal wear and tear but to improve your chances of getting all of your secuirty deposit back, do some rigrous cleaning beforehand.

It is a fact that smoking during the pregnancy is not good for the baby. Yet, do you know that to be around somebody else who are smoking is not good for you and your baby? The research shows that secondhand smoker has the same impact as what the smoker has.

There are some effects of secondhand smoke on the pregnant mothers. The first effect is <low birth weight>. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) mentions that pregnant women who are exposed to the secondhand smoke have higher risk to give birth with low birth weight baby. The risk is up to 20%. It means that there will be so many consequences for the development of the baby.

Another effect is that the secondhand smoke pregnant mothers have greater risk of delivering the baby who has died in the uteri. And, although the baby is safely born, he/she has greater risk of experiencing sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Or, he/she has bad lung function. This will be so problematic for the baby who was born prematurely.

Roman shades might give a different look. My parents used to have a short triple window. They just used regular curtains. I have used vertical blinds on a sliding window. I had them done in an accent color rather than a neutral color. It does have a more contemporary feel.

 QUESTION:
Do we need God?
...to understand life and death?

There is a chill in the air that moves the blind. This is the moment of pause between a lone robin's notes. A squirrel's sprint is broken into short scenes by the vertical blinds. My computer hums.

It hums to me the wain of the hours, and nags about the work which must be done on it. I smile at the black case with its silver Dell logo. I will not be nagged, nor saddened by the lessening days.

Glancing back out the window, I wait for the robin to sing his counter point to the humming black box.

 QUESTION:
72in blinds... but 71in window..?
I went to Home Depot today to buy horizontal window blinds to replace the vertical ones I currently have. I measured the window and it was 71 inches wide, so I bought 72 inch blinds hoping they would be a little shorter, but they were not. I looked on HomeDepot.com and they do not have any 71in blinds, the next size down is 66in. Could I put up two 35 inches?
Thanks for replying blackgrumpcat. However, it's the width part I'm having the trouble with, the window in 71 inches wide, and the blinds are 72 inches wide.

 ANSWER:
they will cut the width at home depot. Just take them back and tell them the width of window. they will know what to cut off

Curtains as window coverings can add a special touch to a room and can also add a measure of privacy. Whatever you end up choosing, a window treatment of curtains can not only add some color or texture to a room, but can sometimes solve problems you may have with a window as well.

There are many types of curtains to choose from. One of the most popular types is the box pleated curtain. These curtains are pre-gathered into pleats at the top of the curtain so that they always have that neat, tailored look. These can be a little more expensive than just a plain curtain, but their extra fullness can add a nice touch to your window treatment.

Another popular type of curtain is a valance. It is a short piece of fabric that only decorates the top fourth of the window. They can come in many colors and patterns, and are usually used along with blinds so that there is still a way to close the window off and still get some privacy.

Of course, curtains also play a more functional role in our home.

Curtains can also be used to completely block out light for those who want their room very dark or for those who sleep during the day. These are known as blackout curtains and they have a special liner that does not allow any light to penetrate through the curtain itself. The only light you may need to worry about may just come around the edge or top of the curtain.

Thermal curtains are a good option for saving energy. These window treatments keep the temperature more constant in the house, whether you want it warm or cool. This can save on energy costs since warm or cool air is not lost through the windows.

Thermal curtains and blackout curtains as window coverings can also make good sources for noise blockage. If you live on a noisy street, or have to sleep during the day, sometimes outside noise can be pretty disturbing. These types of curtains can be really helpful to reduce the noise level as well as the light level.

A simpler type of curtain is a cafe curtain, which you can usually find in a kitchen. These curtains are made of light material and often have decorative designs. These are the kinds of curtains you often imagine blowing in the wind in a kitchen.

Whatever type of curtains as window coverings you need, finding one that you like and that goes with your decor can sometimes be a challenge. In addition, curtains for a larger window can cost quite a bit. However, curtains are often a longer term investment since you don't usually change them every year, so find the ones that you like, and hopefully you will soon have a lovely window area to enjoy.

So remember not to base your buying decision strictly on the price. Curtains play not only an important part of your home decor but also say a lot about you. So what do your curtains say about you.

Frequently Asked Questions

 QUESTION:
What do I use for a curtain rod in front of vertical blinds?
My husband and I have a townhouse that we rented. It has sliding doors in the living room to get to the back 'yard', and they put vertical blinds in front of the sliding doors. We do not have a place to store them (our bed is a platform style, so there is no under the bed, and none of our closets are big enough to fit the blinds in there), so we want to leave them up, but cover it with curtains.

I'd like to put the curtains in front of the blinds, but the rod would have to extend a good 5 or so inches from the wall. Is there any hardware I can use that would extend the rod connection pieces so I can hang the curtains in front? I'm going to hang the curtains above the blinds and in front, to completely hide them (we don't use that door much, so the curtains won't be fully opened, and I have a design in mind that will let light in, but hide the top of the vertical blinds).

But I need to get the curtains in front. Any suggestions?
That's what I meant by rod connection pieces...brackets. I just couldn't think of the word.

 ANSWER:
You can purchase extenders at decorating stores, but here is what we used. We got those hooks that you can hang bikes up in the garage and I covered them in the fabric that I was making the curtains out of... they stick out at least 6 inches (see example in the pic below) you just twist them into the wall... cover.. and place the curtain rod on that...

 QUESTION:
How to hang curtains over vertical blinds?
My boyfriend and I live in an apartment, so we really can't drill or do anything drastic to the walls to hang a curtain rod. Are there any other options to hanging curtains over a set of vertical blinds?

 ANSWER:
In my rented house, we have awful vertical blinds and aren't allowed to put a curtain rod into the wall. So, I bought two of those large-sized Command brand adhesive hooks (you can find them pretty much anywhere) and stuck them where the ends of a curtain rod would've been drilled into the wall. You can buy long dowel rods/similar things to lay across and set into the hooks. I then hung a (lightweight) length of fabric instead of curtains, and it looks really nice! If you hate the way the plastic hooks look, try placing some kind of decor over them to make it seem chic.

I want to get some valances for my kitchen. I have vertical blinds, so do I need a "special" type of rod or can I just get any curtain rod I want?

Thanks!

 ANSWER:
if your blinds are hung inside the sill, you can use any rod. if they are mounted outside of the sill you will just need one that will fit over the blinds.
